With an extensive team of therapists professionally trained in a wide array of services, our state-certified Mental Health & AODA Clinic is well staffed to provide clinical evaluations, as well as to provide individual, group, or family counseling in a prompt, effective, & discrete manner. Dennis Elmergreen, PsyD, LP

Dr. Elmergreen is Co-owner and Clinical Director of Elmergreen Associates. He has been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Wisconsin since 1986 and also serves as Clinical Supervisor for the Stockbridge-Munsee Health and Wellness Center for the Stockbridge-Munsee tribe.

Court officials, school-based professionals, tribal leaders, and medical practitioners can rely on Dr. Elmergreen’s 30+ years of trusted expertise to provide clinical evaluations in the Wausau metro area. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, as well as hiking, traveling, and reading.

Kandace Elmergreen, MS, LCSW

Kandace Elmergreen is Co-owner of Elmergreen Associates. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 25 years of experience. Ms. Elmergreen co-developed a divorce parenting program and a day treatment for at-risk children and teens now implemented by Marathon County. She is available to do presentations on anxiety/stress management, as well as other topics upon request.

Ms. Elmergreen works with her clients to restore balance to their lives. Her goal is to help her patients achieve mental and physical health so that they may be healed after a life change or loss. She endeavors to help people experience forgiveness and self-compassion to heal emotional wounds and attain equilibrium in their lives.

Colleen Angel has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wisconsin since 2017 and a Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC-IT) since 2018. She joined Elmergreen Associates in 2017 after having served as an Information Professional since 1995. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the Midwest Brainspotting Institute(MBI).

Colleen listens to clients to learn about who they are through stories they tell about themselves. She focuses on helping clients to choose goals, plan treatments, and claim their power to live in healthy relationship to themselves and others. She believes that all people can improve themselves, and she assists each person to find the best ways to meet his or her unique therapeutic goals. Colleen enjoys meeting new people and learning new things. Some of her favorite people include her son and her two furry, four-legged cats.

QUALIFICATIONS

Colleen trained in Brainspotting (BSP) beginning in 2016 and continuing through the current year: Training with Dr. David Grand, Dr. Pie Frey, Dr. Ruby Gibson, and several other trainers.
She has led group work in AODA recovery for state and county level programs. She also interned at Wood County, WI, assisting counselors with Day Treatment and an Intensive Outpatient Program designed for clients with AODA issues who were enrolled in the Wood County Drug Court program.
Colleen has enjoyed working with university students to adjust to individuating and succeeding in new roles away from home.

Gary Grote MDiv CSAC

Gary Grote, MDiv, CSAC

Gary Grote joined the staff of Elmergreen Associates in 2016. After his first career of 22 years as a Lutheran pastor, Gary has been working in the field of substance use disorders since 2000 as an outpatient case manager and counselor. He became a Registered Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor I in 2002, a Substance Abuse Counselor in 2006, and a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in 2008.

Gary is a member of the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC) and has extensive experience with Driver Safety Plans for individuals required to engage in AODA (Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse) counseling following a citation for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

Mr. Grote is deeply dedicated to the meaningful, joyful, rewarding, and challenging journey of RECOVERY, walking side-by-side with clients to gain and maintain sobriety and working with clients toward the goal of rebuilding lives that have been damaged by addiction.

Gary has a heart for helping individuals stay clean and sober while under the pressure of community supervision (e.g., probation and parole). In the safe space of a respectful, caring, and trusting relationship, the client and counselor together will form positive and realistic goals that grow out of a client’s own strengths, needs, hopes, and dreams.

Dr. David Derus is a licensed psychologist in the state of Wisconsin. He works from a culturally sensitive cognitive behavioral perspective with individuals ages 12 and up.

Dr. Austin Gonzalez is a postdoctoral fellow who received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Susie is a Licensed Professional counselor who has experience working with a wide variety of individuals from all walks of life. Lexie Strasser LPC

Lexie Strasser, LPC

Ms. Strasser’s approach to counseling is client-centered, compassionate and supportive. She aims to be an encouraging support to those working with her while offering tools to improve mental well-being.

Ms. Strasser has been trained in EMDR for the treatment of trauma. She is also trained to provide AODA counseling to address substance abuse concerns in addition to her clients’ mental health needs. Lexie often draws from mindfulness, self-compassion and dialectical behavioral therapy in her practice.
